Kadampa Meditation Center Tampa Bay

Prayers for World Peace

We offer regular classes that teach Buddhist meditation and the Buddhist way of life. The Center is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition following the Teachings and example of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, a fully accomplished meditation master and internationally renowned Teacher of Buddhism. Our teachings include advice on positive thinking, relaxation techniques and practical advice for solving everyday problems. We also organize study programs, community events, special day courses, retreats and weekend spiritual holidays abroad.

Safety Harbor

Founded in 1996 KMC Tampa Bay (formerly Parbawatiya) was the first center of Kadampa Buddhism to be established in Florida. The Center owns two beautiful and peaceful properties—one just off Main Street in downtown Safety Harbor, the other near Ybor City in Tampa. Situated conveniently close to the Courtney Campbell Causeway, Howard Franklin Bridge, and US Highway 19 North, the Safety Harbor location is easily accessible from anywhere in the Tampa Bay and Pinellas County area. Just five minutes’ walk from the famous Safety Harbor Spa, the Center offers a delightful spacious meditation room, bookstore, meditation garden, and comfortable sitting areas for socializing.

“Parbawatiya” (pronounced “Par-ba-wa-tee-ya”) is the name of a female Buddha of Wisdom. This Sanskrit name literally means “Radiant Dawn” and refers to the blissful wisdom consciousness of an enlightened being.

Tampa CenterIn October of 2015, the center opened a second location in Tampa and changed its name to Kadampa Meditation Center Tampa Bay. The community has lovingly restored this historic house in the Tampa Heights neighborhood near downtown and Ybor City, and it includes space for residents to live and guests to stay and enjoy the many programs offered there. The temple grand opening was celebrated on December 17.
